CEO Chris Johnson and CTO Daron Meyer present at global industry conference

ORLANDO, Fla – Portico Benefit Services President and Chief Executive Officer Chris Johnson and Chief Technology Officer Daron Meyer are speaking May 12 at SAP Sapphire, a global conference focused on enterprise technology and innovation.
The annual event brings together business and technology leaders from around the world, with an estimated 15,000 attendees participating in person and tens of thousands more joining virtually.
As the nonprofit benefits ministry of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), Portico’s technology investments are guided by a commitment to ensure the systems behind those benefits are reliable, secure, and able to support members throughout their working lives and into retirement.
Johnson and Meyer are presenting in the SAP Conference’s Industry Spotlight with a session titled “Portico’s Transformation: From S/4HANA Foundation to AI‑Omnichannel.” Their presentation traces Portico’s multi‑year effort to replace aging, unscalable systems, modernize pension and billing operations, and strengthen enterprise data and analytics –work designed to support consistency, accuracy, and trust for those Portico serves.
“Modernizing our technology isn’t about technology for its own sake,” Johnson said. “It’s about building a strong, dependable foundation with the right capabilities so we can serve those who serve with integrity, clarity, and care.”
The SAP session also highlights how that foundation supports Mosaic, Portico’s platform for AI‑enabled, omnichannel engagement, helping staff better support members across a range of interactions and needs.
“Our approach has been deliberate,” Meyer said. “By putting the right core systems in place first, we’ve been able to build in a thoughtful way, supporting long‑term sustainability and better experiences for employers and members.”
Johnson’s remarks focus on Portico’s transformation journey and the importance of sequencing change thoughtfully, while Meyer provides a closer look at the underlying technology architecture and how Portico is building on its SAP foundation.
SAP Sapphire brings together leaders from across industries to share how they are navigating change and preparing for what comes next. For Portico, the work remains rooted in stewardship – using modern tools so the organization can continue to serve faithfully, now and in the years ahead.
