Benefits expertise.
Mission mindset.

Portico brings deep benefits experience to organizations where success means more than the bottom line.

For mission-driven organizations, benefits decisions influence more than cost. They affect your people, your resources and your ability to carry out your purpose.

Portico understands that connection — and brings benefits expertise to help you navigate it.

As a ministry of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), Portico Benefit Services provides retirement, health, life, disability, and wellness benefits to enhance the total well-being of those who serve faith-based organizations.

Health care affordability is bigger than any one organization.

Rising health care costs are putting increasing pressure on churches, nonprofits and the people who serve our communities.

Portico President and CEO Chris Johnson shares why meaningful progress will require organizations to work together — and why the stakes extend far beyond benefits budgets.

Since 1988, we’ve helped mission-driven organizations manage the cost of care.

Every year since 2020, Portico’s annual rate increases for the ELCA Health Plan have come in below the national medical cost trend.

When your mission matters,
benefits matter differently.

Mission-driven organizations are balancing responsibilities that don’t always fit neatly on a spreadsheet.

You want to offer benefits that help attract, support and retain good people. You also need to manage rising costs and protect the resources your organization depends on to serve others.

At Portico, we believe those priorities have to be considered together.

Support the people who make your mission possible.

Benefits should help employees care for their health, build financial security and feel supported in the work they do.

Strengthen your organization’s ability to serve.

The people behind your mission are essential to your ability to deliver it.

Make thoughtful use of the resources entrusted to you.

Benefits decisions should balance meaningful support for employees with the long-term needs of your organization.

That’s what we mean by a mission mindset.

A partner that understands what you’re here to do.

Portico was created to serve the church. That experience has shaped how we think about benefits, partnership and stewardship.

We understand organizations where success isn’t measured by financial performance alone. It’s also measured in people supported, communities strengthened and missions sustained.

Today, we bring that perspective together with vast knowledge to help mission-driven organizations navigate complex decisions about their people and their future.

Start with a conversation about your organization and your goals.
