Description

We are seeking a visionary Head of Products to lead our product strategy and development efforts, with a focus on health and retirement products. This role is pivotal in shaping the future of our offerings and ensuring they meet the evolving needs of our members. The Head of Products will collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive innovation, enhance user experience, and deliver high-quality products that align with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America’s philosophy of benefits.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure that health and retirement product strategies are consistent with the ELCA philosophy of benefits and appropriate for Portico’s membership base in a changing legal, demographic, social, and cultural environment.
  • Work with internal and external market research experts to tap customer intelligence so that we are strategically positioned to meet and anticipate customer needs.
  • Provide collaborative leadership and guidance throughout Portico to maintain effective service, communications, and advocacy to Portico’s health product members and employers via strong dotted-line relationships in the areas of customer service, vendor management, Finance, member and sponsor communications, and Legal.
  • Collaborate with Portico’s Investment Unit to establish appropriate investment policies for Portico’s health products.
  • Lead evaluation and implementation of appropriate claim utilization management programs.
  • Identify methods of enhancing Portico’s ability to create and deliver value-driven health products by maintaining relationships with vendors, consultants, and other industry experts.
  • Direct the gathering, analyzing, and monitoring of essential data to ensure that Portico’s products are properly priced and liabilities are appropriately established.
  • Establish measurements of financial soundness and manage the products to meet those measurements.
  • Collaborate with Finance & Administration during the completion and audit of Portico’s financial statements.
  • Ensure Portico’s health and retirement products meet or exceed value indicators developed for such products in the areas of efficiency, expense ratio, member and sponsor service, and customer engagement.
  • This position must understand and comply with all of Portico’s Governance, Risk, and Compliance standards (e.g., internal controls, regulatory compliance, policy compliance, evidence retention) and promotes these standards as required by the position. Additionally, the Head of Products is responsible for ensuring their direct reports understand and comply with Portico’s Governance, Risk, and Compliance standards.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in product management and leadership roles, particularly in health and retirement products.
  • Organizational savvy and an understanding of the business implications of decisions.
  • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Passion for improving member well-being through innovative health and retirement products
  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external teams.
  • Ability to synthesize complex or diverse information.
  • Ability to look at a problem from all angles; to do root cause analysis; to rigorously examine both risks and rewards and possible unintended consequences of business decisions and product design.
  • Ability to adapt strategies and tactics in the face of a changing environment.
  • Demonstrated process improvement/change management skills.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, actuarial math or related field (Masters preferred).

Experience

  • Ten+ years of Management experience with a concentration in health and retirement plans. 
  • Actuarial certification preferred.

STARTING PAY RANGE: $189,000 – $225,000 per year.
