Consumer Insights Analyst

Department: Brand & Customer Engagement


The Consumer Insights Analyst is responsible for conducting market and customer research and analysis to support Portico’s growth and retention strategies. By translating insights into actionable recommendations, the Consumer Insights Analyst makes significant contributions to inform Portico’s decision-making and enhance the collective understanding of our members, customers, prospective customers, and target markets.

This position is responsible for supporting Portico’s collective understanding of all customers/audiences, target markets and our business environment. The Analyst plans, oversees and conducts market research projects and is responsible for all phases from planning and research design, to fielding, analysis, insights, and reporting.

The Consumer Insights Analyst reports to the Senior Director, Brand & Customer Engagement, and works closely with senior leaders and stakeholders from other Portico business units.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee, design, and execute the in-house market research projects from start to finish, including defining the research objective, the development of research design, data analysis and interpretation, and report writing/presentation
  • Effectively communicate information within and across departments to institutionalize learning over time through dashboards and information made available to the staff
  • Compile data related to market conditions, trends, competitors, and customer groups
  • Manage research vendors to ensure project designs are appropriate, project timelines are met, and studies are completed within budget
  • Deliver reports and presentations of findings to management and executive leadership
  • Determine where gaps in our knowledge and understanding of our customer exist
  • Analyze and translate the data so it “tells the story” of the customers’ experience, expectations, wants, and needs
  • Collaborate and communicate with Information Technology and Finance teams to understand, analyze, and leverage our internal information within our database
  • Study the information over time and identify trends about our stakeholders and business metrics
  • Collaborate with key internal departments such as Business Intelligence, providing information and expertise to the development and implementation of research projects and online survey programming
  • Measure effectiveness of marketing programs and strategies
  • Track NPS (Net Promoter Score) and partner with analytics team to identify variables that correlate with NPS
  • Conduct content analysis for all open-ended survey responses
  • Translate insights into compelling ideas and foundation for innovation, future products, services, experiences, marketing materials, and strategies
  • Stay current on innovative adult education trends, desired skills of target markets, the insurance industry, and new tools and technologies
  • Follow market events that impact our key markets, products, and services
  • Understand and comply with Portico’s governance, risk, and compliance standards, including internal controls, regulatory compliance, and policy compliance


  • Strong analytical skills
  • Ability to synthesize research findings into a succinct, insights-driven reports
  • Ability to present complex information in a clear and insightful manner
  • Thoroughness, attention to detail, and accuracy in work products required
  • Survey management tool experience
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proven time and project management skills
  • Self-motivated and client service oriented
  • Ability to handle change and ambiguity


  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing or related field
  • Agile marketing certification preferred


  • 6+ years of hands-on experience in primary market research, with a variety of qualitative and quantitative methodologies and techniques
  • Experience using Excel or other software for data analysis
  • Background in health care, retirement, or other benefits industry preferred
