Business Analyst

Department: Information Technology


The Business Analyst (BA) position is responsible for interacting with business stakeholders to understand business domains and the opportunities/problems facing the business. The BA works across multiple business areas/domains directly or in partnership with other BAs and Product Owners. The BA translates business needs/opportunities into business requirements and supports the Product Owner in the building, grooming, and prioritizing of the product backlog. The BA is focused on performing analysis in a fast-paced Agile environment and collaborates closely with the IT Agile teams, sharing domain knowledge with them. The BA supports the Agile team design and product development and testing efforts as needed, especially in defining and testing against product backlog item acceptance criteria.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify business needs and opportunities for delivering business value working with business partners and Agile Product Owners
  • Support Product Owners in the translation of business requirements into product backlog items
  • Create and maintain software documentation including user stories, process documentation/flows, file specifications, etc., as needed by external or internal development teams
  • Support product backlog task breakdown definition including the identification of acceptance criteria
  • Execute testing against acceptance criteria in support of sprint commitments, delivering business value quickly and smoothly
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with internal business partners, external business partners, Product Owners, and Agile team members
  • Effectively and efficiently triage and troubleshoot issues that are raised, prioritizing which must be addressed immediately and which can go into the product backlog to be addressed later
  • Participate in software release implementation and post-implementation support as needed
  • Keep up to date with industry trends and best practices affecting business analysis
  • Understand and comply with Portico’s governance, risk, and compliance standards, including internal controls, regulatory compliance, and policy compliance


  • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate across the organization including internal and external business partners, Product Owners, and IT Agile team members
  • Ability to elicit and define business needs and opportunities from business stakeholders
  • Ability to navigate business and technology domains to solicit requirements
  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge and experience in techniques to capture, define, and document business and technical requirements
  • Knowledge and experience defining requirements in Agile/Scrum methodologies
  • Ability to move quickly, adapt, and prioritize in a fast-paced Agile development environment
  • General knowledge and experience with database schemas, tables, and relationships
  • Knowledge with cloud computing, Microsoft Azure, and microservice architecture
  • General knowledge and experience with testing, verification, validation, and execution
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects and other assignments and self-manage to meet deadlines


  • Bachelor’s degree in related field


  • 3 – 4 years of business analysis experience on small- to medium-scale, cross-functional projects
  • Experience writing and managing use cases, decomposing requirements, and quality assurance activities
  • Experience developing requirements utilizing Agile/Scrum methodologies
  • Experience creating SQL queries
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and Visio
