The Rev. Jeffrey D. Thiemann

President and CEO

The Rev. Jeffrey Thiemann became President and CEO of Portico Benefit Services in 2011. A ministry of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, Portico helps those who serve to live well – financially, emotionally, and physically. Jeff was drawn to Portico, because it resonates with his passion for pursuing solutions to the complex challenges of health care and retirement planning, applying a values-based approach with a caring and talented team.

Outside of Portico, Jeff serves as Board Treasurer for the Lutheran Services in America, Board Chair for the Church Benefits Association, and is on the Steering Committees for the Church Alliance and Minnesota Braver Angels Alliance.

Previously, Jeff was Executive Pastor at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Walnut Creek, CA. Prior to answering a call to ordained ministry, he worked in a variety of business settings. He was President and CEO of a Silicon Valley startup and spent nearly 20 years at Hewlett-Packard Co. in global assignments and management positions.

In addition to earning a bachelor’s degree in computer science engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Jeff graduated from The General Manager Program at Harvard Business School and received a Master of Divinity degree from Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary.

Jeff and his wife, Pam, reside in Plymouth, MN and are members of Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Maple Grove, MN. They have four children and three grandsons.
