Enterprise Business Analyst

Description:

The Enterprise Business Analyst applies a flexible and effective range of skills including planning, analysis, development, implementation, and technical expertise to project-related initiatives throughout Portico Benefit Services. The position is responsible for understanding the business needs of stakeholders and ensuring that the delivered solution meets the need and adds value to the organization. A key facilitator within the organization, the Enterprise Business Analyst demonstrates the ability to “bridge” or translate stakeholder needs, often across multiple business areas, with technological opportunities resulting in measurable project outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

Projects

  • Identify and understand the business problem and the impact of the proposed solution on the organization’s operations
  • Translate business objectives into business and system requirements using analysis and modeling tools
  • Elicit business requirements through interviews, workshops, and/or existing system documentation or business and information technology processes and procedures
  • Deliver comprehensive requirements analysis and documentation including business need identification, scope definition, requirements elicitation and discovery, analysis (for example, trade-off analysis, requirement feasibility and risk analysis, cost/benefit analysis), specification, validation, change management, maintenance, and enhancements
  • Use industry standard analysis techniques to uncover stakeholder requirements such as data flow modeling, use case analysis, workflow analysis, functional decomposition, data modeling, and object modeling
  • Use prototyping, where possible, to solidify stakeholder requirements (in conjunction with the UI designer and software developer)
  • Assist QA analysts to ensure completeness of test cases and test scenarios
  • Review test results to ensure business requirements are being met
  • Assist with developing training plans and reviewing training plan materials for business users
  • Participate in project implementation
  • Adhere to process guidelines and standards
  • Identify areas of potential business risk and communicate these to the project manager or team leader
  • Understand, comply, and promote Portico’s governance, risk, and compliance standards (for example, internal controls, regulatory compliance, policy compliance, evidence retention)

Software Release Management

  • Interpret and validate end-user software problems and suggest appropriate program change requests to correct defects and to enhance system functionality and performance
  • Assist in management of requirements product backlog and the prioritization of requirements into each sprint backlog
  • Deliver requirements documentation and manage change requests
  • Review architecture and other design documents to ensure business requirements are being met
  • Participate in software release implementation and post-implementation support

Other

  • Keep up-to-date with industry trends and best practices affecting business analysis methodologies that will positively influence or improve business solutions
  • Assists in the analysis and resolution of systems software problems
  • Communicate requirements and requirements change management to appropriate levels of the organization

Qualifications:

  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization
  • Capacity to be a central figure on projects and bi-lingual in speaking both business and technical languages
  • Able to work with the business users and stakeholders to identify business needs
  • Adept at facilitation, consensus building, conflict management, problem solving, negotiation, and decision making
  • Experienced in conducting impact analysis of new business requirements
  • Demonstrated knowledge of techniques to plan, document, analyze, trace, and manage requirements
  • Ability to partition and decompose requirements in an iterative software development environment
  • Demonstrated requirements documentation skills including process flows, use cases, and other supporting documentation
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with requirements change management, risk identification, and analysis and response techniques
  • Demonstrated experience with agile software development methodology and managing product and sprint requirement backlogs
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with object and data modeling techniques
  • General knowledge and experience with database schemas, tables, and relationships
  • Experience with rapid prototyping techniques
  • General knowledge and experience with testing, verification, validation, and execution
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, including mentoring and coaching individuals or teams
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects and other assignments according to agreed-upon deadlines

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, healthcare or business administration

Experience

  • 8+ years working in multiple areas of information technology and business
  • In-depth knowledge of information technology and at least one of the following functional areas:
    • Pension and/or healthcare benefits
    • Financial and/or investment services
